One of the greatest benefits of university life is the opportunity to expand your perspectives, uncover fresh passions, and engage in diverse extracurricular pursuits. Liberal Studies offers this flexibility. Often referred to as liberal arts programs elsewhere, Liberal Studies enables you to investigate various disciplines across humanities, social sciences, languages and cultures, and creative arts – while also selecting courses from Waterloo's other faculties. You can specialize your degree with one or more minors, or maintain a broad, interdisciplinary approach. (If you develop a deep interest in a particular field, you can transition to a major at any stage.) Academic advisors are available to assist with degree planning and course selection. Enhance your education further through Waterloo's EDGE (experiential learning) certificate, Global Experience Certificate programs, or by pursuing Liberal Studies within the Honours Arts and Business degree. Key program features include: Over 100 academic fields. Waterloo provides extensive options, with the possibility to complete your degree fully online. Transfer-friendly structure. The program permits up to 50% of courses to be transferred from previous studies or other programs. Note: Honours Liberal Studies cannot be combined with other Arts majors but can be paired with numerous honours programs in different faculties (Joint Honours).
