Our department focuses on researching language, applied linguistics, literature, and visual media studies. We maintain vibrant graduate and undergraduate programs in German studies, while also providing instruction in Croatian, Dutch, and Russian, along with interdisciplinary options such as a Cultural Identities minor. In today's globalized society, mastering another language and culture offers significant advantages. At Waterloo, our German program extends beyond language instruction. Delve into German cultural studies, cinema, literary works, and linguistics, or complement your studies with other Slavic languages like Russian and Croatian - all enhanced by practical work experience through our co-op program. We provide travel scholarships for study abroad programs that can contribute toward earning a Global Experience Certificate.
