The Honours Visual Culture program explores visual culture's significant impact on society and cultural development. This interdisciplinary curriculum emphasizes the historical and theoretical study of visual culture while acknowledging its expanding global reach and varied audience perspectives. The program's core includes five visual culture courses, starting with foundational classes that examine art and cinema through the lens of visual perception (how we interpret our surroundings). Subsequent courses analyze visual culture through multiple disciplines and theoretical frameworks, culminating in a personalized tutorial where students develop a senior thesis with faculty guidance. Students complement these core requirements with at least 11 additional courses selected from over 100 options across 20+ university departments, focusing on diverse visual culture elements. Those pursuing the Honours Fine Arts - Visual Culture specialization can further enrich their studies by taking VCULT 401, an advanced follow-up to their thesis project during their final year.
