The Rhetoric, Media, and Professional Communication (RMPC) major is one of four undergraduate options within the English Department. This program provides both theoretical depth and hands-on experience in rhetoric, professional writing, information design, and digital media.
Students gain comprehensive training in both classical and modern rhetorical studies while exploring career paths in advertising, technical communication, visual documentation, and digital content creation.
The English-RMPC curriculum spans multiple disciplines:
Rhetoric and professional writing courses develop versatile writing skills for diverse contexts and audiences, along with multiple research methodologies.
Digital media classes offer both critical analysis and hands-on production experience with various digital formats.
Linguistics studies reveal how language shapes identity and communication through its structure and usage.
Literature courses cover global traditions including British, Canadian, American, and Postcolonial works.
Electives allow for specialized study in areas of personal interest.
Graduates are well-prepared for advanced study in literature, linguistics, communications, or composition, as well as careers in business, government, education, or media—any field requiring strong analytical, creative, and communication skills.
For aspiring authors, the Creative Writing Specialization offers professional guidance from published faculty, peer workshops, and industry knowledge for fiction, poetry, drama, and creative nonfiction writers.
