The Literature and Rhetoric program combines the complementary strengths of UWaterloo's English Department. This curriculum offers a balanced approach to mastering both fields while allowing flexibility to pursue individual academic interests. Through literary studies, you'll build a foundation in British, Canadian, American, and Postcolonial literary traditions and theories. The rhetoric component examines rhetorical history and theory, professional writing principles, information design, and digital media. Should a student's grades fall below honors standards, they may transition to a four-year general English degree with a Literature and Rhetoric focus. General degree students enjoy the same course offerings as honors students, though without co-op opportunities or specialized graduation recognition.
