Applicants can pursue either an MA or MSc degree, with the final designation determined by your advisor and the SDH program director. Both degree paths culminate in a thesis requirement.
The Social Dimensions of Health (SDH) program provides graduate education pathways leading to Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
Specializing in interdisciplinary health research, the program connects the academic and research objectives of multiple faculties along with the university's interdisciplinary research centers, creating exceptional opportunities for students pursuing health studies that transcend conventional academic boundaries.
As an interdisciplinary, research-focused graduate program, SDH integrates theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches from humanities, health sciences, and social sciences. The flexible curriculum enables students to tailor their studies to align with their academic background and professional aspirations. All candidates must complete and successfully defend either a thesis (for MA/MSc) or dissertation (for PhD) following Faculty of Graduate Studies guidelines.
Operating under the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the SDH program is managed by the School of Public Health and Social Policy within the Faculty of Human and Social Development. This structure provides students with departmental affiliation while preserving the program's distinctive interdisciplinary character and advantages.
