Design students cultivate expertise across three key disciplines: scenic, costume, and lighting design. Your abilities will be honed through hands-on experience in departmental productions. You'll focus primarily on one design specialization while developing secondary skills in another area. The culminating project involves designing components for a complete theatrical production.
Upon completing the MFA in Design & Production, graduates will possess the ability to:
apply knowledge of both traditional and modern performance design techniques
show proficiency in visual communication methods used by designers, including costume illustrations, scale models, CAD drawings, and more
collaborate effectively with diverse creative teams, including technical staff and performers
provide and receive constructive critique on artistic work
analyze their personal creative methodology and design philosophy within their specialization
articulate - both verbally and in writing - how their work contributes to global performance design
develop innovative, conceptually strong, and visually stunning performance designs
