The Master of Visual Studies (MVS) program at the Daniels Faculty produces innovative research and scholarship that showcases evolving approaches to artistic creation and exhibition design, informed by philosophical inquiry, cultural analysis, critical discourse, and varied material techniques. As part of a top-tier research university, the MVS program treats artistic practice and exhibition as scholarly inquiry, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration throughout the Daniels Faculty and the broader University of Toronto community.
Our distinguished faculty consists of renowned artists and curators with extensive exhibition backgrounds. With intimate class settings and personalized guidance, students enjoy exceptional access to global artists, curators, authors, and cultural professionals through private studio consultations, specialized workshops, and guest lectures.
The MVS in Curatorial Studies provides an intensive exploration of both traditional and modern curatorial techniques, alongside current trends in artistic practice, theoretical frameworks, and critical analysis. Students investigate exhibition history and practical methodologies while engaging with contemporary art movements and theoretical advancements through required and optional coursework. This two-year curriculum offers multiple avenues for students to thoroughly develop their culminating thesis exhibition.
An appropriate bachelor's degree with significant coursework in humanities and cultural theory from a recognized university, or an appropriate BFA degree from a recognized university.
Overall average of at least a B+.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Required score: 7.0 (Academic) with at least 6.5 for each component.
Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) Including Writing and Speaking Sections: Overall score: 93; Writing: 22; Speaking: 22
Academic English Level 60: Required score: B
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Online: Required score: 70 minimum total with at least 60 in each part.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE): Required score: 76 minimum total with at least 22 in each component and 32 in writing
Cambridge Assessment English: Required score: minimum 185 overall with at least 176 in each component.
