The Graduate Department of Public Health Sciences at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health provides both full-time and part-time graduate degree options. Prospective students should ideally possess prior knowledge of statistics and quantitative methods. Relevant work experience is also considered during admissions. The Master of Public Health (MPH) program prepares students for professional and research roles across community, academic, government, and private settings, while the Master of Science (MSc) focuses on research-oriented careers in Biostatistics.
Public Health Sciences (PHS) delivers diverse educational pathways for both newcomers to public health and experienced professionals seeking advanced training. With over 800 graduate students enrolled, our doctoral and master's programs cover numerous specialties within one of the globe's top public health institutions.
The MPH in Epidemiology program establishes strong methodological foundations in epidemiology while offering practical experience through research, policy work, and field practice. Full-time students typically finish the program in 4-5 consecutive terms (including summer), completing mandatory and elective courses along with a practicum placement (after at least two terms of coursework).
The program focuses on quantitative approaches, evidence evaluation, and data analysis, aiming to cultivate leadership skills rather than just technical training. Graduates are prepared to tackle public health issues independently and spearhead field initiatives. Physicians completing Public Health and Preventive Medicine (PHPM) residencies frequently pursue the MPH in Epidemiology to meet comprehensive training standards.
