The Master of Information (MI) program enables students to investigate the vast field of information and knowledge management through comprehensive study. Students can select from five specialized tracks: Library & Information Science, Archives & Records Management, Human Centered Data Science, User Experience Design, or Information Systems & Design. Additionally, the Faculty of Information offers a dual-degree pathway, allowing simultaneous enrollment in both the Master of Information and Master of Museum Studies programs. This cutting-edge interdisciplinary curriculum thoroughly examines information and knowledge management across all dimensions. MI alumni emerge as sought-after professionals equipped to advance the fields of information design, organization, storage, access, retrieval, dissemination, preservation, and management. Their comprehensive understanding of societal needs opens doors to diverse career paths across various industries.
The Human Centered Data Science (HCDS) specialization within the MI program equips students with technical proficiency in handling complex, large-scale datasets and information systems, while also emphasizing user-focused visualization, ethical considerations, and policy implications. This concentration distinguishes its graduates by incorporating social impact assessment throughout all phases of solution development. Unlike conventional data science programs that prioritize computational and statistical training, this track consistently integrates human-centered and societal perspectives. Students will master core concepts, theories, and practices related to data acquisition and manipulation, while evaluating how emerging technologies influence society through practical application.
