The Women and Gender Studies Institute (WGSI) provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Women and Gender Studies. The Master's Program in Women and Gender Studies (MWGS) emphasizes feminist colonial, postcolonial, indigenous, diasporic, and transnational frameworks for examining gender, sexuality, and feminist thought. This approach investigates the historical and spatial contexts that shape human experiences, gendered identities, and sexual relations.
Our M.A. curriculum enables students to engage in advanced feminist scholarship while exploring these critical issues. The program aims to enhance students' capacity to critically analyze theoretical frameworks and methodologies, as well as evaluate their real-world implications. Students can pursue feminist research across diverse disciplines within the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health Sciences. The M.A. Program operates as an intensive twelve-month, full-time course of study and is not available for part-time enrollment.
An appropriate bachelor's degree in women's studies and gender studies or a related area at an approved university. Applicants must have obtained an average equivalent to a University of Toronto B+ or better in their final year of undergraduate study.
