The Master of Arts program caters to students with varied academic interests seeking a one-year graduate education in political science. MA candidates can select among three specializations: Political Economy of International Development, Political Science, or Political Theory. Those drawn to philosophical and normative studies may opt for Political Theory. This concentration enables students to focus on one of the department's established strong suits. Our extensive, multidisciplinary faculty provides numerous course options spanning political thought history, normative theory, and critical perspectives (including Black, Postcolonial, Indigenous political thought, feminist theory, and Buddhist political theory). Typically, theory stream students complete eight graduate courses, with a minimum of four in political theory, plus at least two courses from other disciplines.
