The Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies provides advanced degree programs culminating in MA and PhD qualifications. Its core curriculum emphasizes Dramatic Theory, Dramaturgy, and Theatre History as primary areas of study. Within these disciplines, the center facilitates scholarly investigation into diverse subjects including performance evaluation and audience reception, theatrical traditions from Canada, America, feminist perspectives, and post-colonial contexts, historical staging techniques from Elizabethan to Restoration periods, performance historiography, contemporary acting methodologies, and script development processes. Students can supplement their studies by enrolling in drama-related courses offered through collaborative partnerships with various academic departments and research institutes throughout the Faculty. The graduate program expands upon the undergraduate foundation typically established through four years of concentrated dramatic literature study. Practical theatrical experience forms a crucial component of graduate education, primarily occurring through workshop sessions, student-led performances, and collaborative productions staged at the Robert Gill and Studio Theatres.
