The Master of Arts in Adult Education & Community Development (AECD) is a thesis-driven program centered on research, examining how adults learn both individually and collaboratively across various contexts - from local communities and professional environments to activist groups and digital spaces where social transformation occurs. This program particularly suits individuals aiming to cultivate educational, community-building, and leadership competencies for diverse roles across public institutions, private organizations, and nonprofit initiatives. Alumni frequently engage with immigrant populations, young adults, women's organizations, LGBTQ+ services, labor unions, marginalized racial groups, and underserved communities. Throughout their studies, participants gain experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
This thesis-oriented graduate program explores learning processes in social contexts where collective action drives societal progress, spanning neighborhood initiatives, corporate settings, and activist networks. It equips students with practical skills for educational, community development, and leadership positions across governmental, business, and nonprofit spheres.
