The Conservation and Biodiversity program empowers students to examine the Earth's remarkable biodiversity through diverse viewpoints and methodologies. The Molecular Biology and Biotechnology programs delve into cellular and sub-cellular processes that govern life. Designed for aspiring healthcare professionals, the Human Biology program focuses on the biology of our species. Integrative Biology takes a cross-disciplinary approach to biological inquiries, incorporating various biology subfields. Biological Sciences provides ten Major programs and one Minor option. The Major programs (including Biology, Biology Co-op, Conservation and Biodiversity, Conservation and Biodiversity Co-op, Human Biology, Human Biology Co-op, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology Co-op, Immunology and Disease, Immunology and Disease Co-op, Plant Biology, and Plant Biology Co-op) enable students to pair biological studies with unrelated or complementary disciplines like Neuroscience, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Health Studies, or Psychology. The Biology Minor caters to students with biological interests who primarily focus on other fields.
Integrative Biology offers a specialist track grounded in diverse approaches to biological complexity. Students gain fundamental knowledge in core biological domains (cellular/organismal biology, ecology/conservation, genetics/development) before advancing to upper-year studies. This program's unique strength lies in enabling simultaneous specialization across multiple areas, fostering comprehensive biological understanding. As contemporary global challenges demand scientists with multifaceted perspectives, this program equips undergraduates with relevant coursework and training. It particularly benefits students pursuing careers in conservation biology, ecology, environmental sciences, cellular/organismal biology, medicine, or other health professions.
