Forensic Science involves analyzing physical evidence within the framework of modern legal systems. Essentially, it represents the application of scientific methods to support judicial proceedings. This field encompasses numerous specialized areas such as Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, and Forensic Psychology. At its core, Forensic Science revolves around uncovering factual truths and interpreting evidence for both criminal investigations and legal proceedings.
The University of Toronto Mississauga offers Canada's inaugural Forensic Science BSc program, structured to equip students with comprehensive knowledge of scientific analysis, theories, lab techniques, practical applications, and fieldwork methods – while enabling specialization in a chosen focus area. Students can opt for either a Forensic Science Major, which must be combined with a second approved science major (listed below), or a Forensic Science Specialist program featuring specialized streams (also detailed below).
Prospective Forensic Science students MUST complete all prerequisite introductory university courses (refer to specific FSC program for minimum requirements) before applying for admission to the program.
