The Environmental Geosciences specialist program explores the relationships between Earth's systems (biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and geosphere), quantifies and models groundwater and biochemical processes, and evaluates human impacts on geological environments. This interdisciplinary program is offered through collaboration between the School of the Environment and the Department of Earth Sciences. Coursework covers earth materials, sedimentary geology, aqueous geochemistry, hydrogeology, and biogeochemistry.
Graduates of this program will meet the academic qualifications for Professional Geoscientist (P. Geo.) certification, following the standards set by the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) and the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists (CCPG).
Earth Sciences investigates the physical, chemical, and biological mechanisms that form Earth and other solar system bodies. The curriculum provides students with fundamental training in mathematics and sciences, plus specialized instruction in rock and mineral physics/chemistry, planetary surface-shaping processes, and biological influences on geological systems.
