Mathematics explores shapes, quantities, patterns, and structures while serving as a foundation for scientific discovery. Proficiency in math unlocks diverse career paths including economics, finance, computer science, engineering, and natural sciences. Beyond practical applications, mathematics offers profound intellectual fulfillment, with teaching and research opportunities available.
Our department boasts numerous distinguished Canadian research mathematicians. The mathematics curriculum is adaptable, enabling students to tailor their studies to specialized interests. Course offerings span from introductory calculus and linear algebra to advanced subjects like real/complex analysis, differential equations, geometry, topology, algebra, graph theory, logic, number theory, and functional analysis.
Specialist programs in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics, and Mathematics and Philosophy cultivate deep mathematical reasoning skills and mastery of precise mathematical language. These programs prepare students for graduate studies, with many alumni attending top-tier institutions worldwide.
The Mathematical Applications in Economics and Finance program equips students for immediate entry into financial careers or advanced studies like MBA, Master of Finance, or doctoral programs.
The Mathematics and its Applications specialist programs feature three focus areas: teaching, physical science, and probability/statistics. Designed as enhanced double majors, these programs share common foundational courses before branching into specialized upper-year content. Graduates may pursue further academic studies if desired.
