Theatre, Drama, and Performance Studies explores the dynamic interplay between playwrights crafting scripts, performers bringing those texts to life, and the audiences who engage with the final production. This discipline investigates both the theatrical experience itself and the creative processes behind it. The program encompasses the examination of dramatic works, performers, performance spaces, production designers, and spectators across historical periods - from ancient Greek amphitheaters to cutting-edge contemporary performances. At U of T Mississauga, the academic and extracurricular hub for these studies centers around two key venues: the Erindale Studio Theatre and the Multi-Media Studio Theatre (MiST). The Erindale Studio Theatre hosts productions by Theatre Erindale (the Specialist Program's professional company) and presentations by campus drama groups. MiST serves as a versatile space for instructional purposes, curricular productions, and student-led performances across all disciplines.
Theatre, Drama, and Performance Studies analyzes the connections between text creators, performance artists, and theatergoers - examining both the final staged work and its creative development. This field investigates dramatic literature, acting techniques, directing approaches, theatrical spaces, design elements, and audience engagement throughout performance history and across global traditions. U of T Mississauga's program focuses on two primary performance spaces: the Erindale Studio Theatre and the Multi-Media Studio Theatre (MiST) located in the CCT Building. The Erindale venue showcases Theatre Erindale's professional productions and works by student organizations like the English and Drama Student Society (EDSS). MiST accommodates academic instruction, program-related performances, and extracurricular presentations. Additional rehearsal spaces in Deerfield Hall support various program activities including classes and performances.
