The Sociology Major Program offers students a comprehensive foundation in sociological theories, methodologies, and specialized fields. Through exposure to fundamental paradigms and research techniques, students cultivate a sociological perspective. The program features diverse elective courses at intermediate and advanced levels, allowing students to specialize within sociological disciplines. Emphasizing liberal arts education, the department focuses on writing proficiency, quantitative skills, practical research experience, and experiential learning opportunities beyond traditional classrooms. The curriculum trains students to analyze social problems using sociological lenses and develop creative solutions to complex societal challenges. Course offerings are structured around five focus areas: Urban Culture Studies, Crime and Legal Systems, Gender and Family Dynamics, Migration and Ethnic Relations, and Economic-Political Structures.
A key objective is equipping students with versatile abilities including effective communication, critical analysis of arguments and data, research design capabilities, and application of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. These transferable skills are developed throughout the academic coursework.
