At its core, political science examines systems of power. Scholars and students in this field explore fundamental principles such as governance structures, civil rights, social equity, democratic participation, and fair legal systems. Grounded in philosophical traditions, political analysts illuminate critical issues surrounding national identity, international integration, causes of political tensions, consequences of resource allocation, and cooperative governance across different levels from municipal to worldwide scales. The University of Toronto Mississauga's political science program equips learners with conceptual understanding and practical abilities across five specialized areas: Philosophical Foundations of Politics, Canadian Government Systems, Global Affairs, Cross-National Political Analysis, and Governance & Public Management.
Reflecting UTM's guiding principles, the Political Science Department champions interconnectedness, original thinking, effective dialogue, progressive solutions, and environmental responsibility. These ideals form the bedrock of our academic instruction and scholarly investigations.
