The Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment provides undergraduate degrees including BA and BSc options in Geography, along with a BSc in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), working in tandem with Environment-related programs. The curriculum follows a progressive structure: introductory courses (first year), fundamental stream courses (second year), followed by specialized upper-year studies. Early program years blend human-social-cultural and biogeophysical approaches with environmental viewpoints and analytical techniques. Following foundational coursework, students must complete two courses from their chosen core stream and two from the remaining three streams before selecting a specialization.
Majors and specialists must fulfill mandatory field experience requirements, achievable through dedicated field courses or classes with field components as specified in course outlines.
Our program highlights geography's interdisciplinary character while cultivating expertise in geographic information analysis. We prepare students with advanced problem-solving abilities for today's rapidly evolving employment sectors. Fieldwork enhances classroom learning by supplying practical workshop materials, honing spatial analysis techniques, fostering investigative skills, and promoting teamwork.
Geography, Geomatics and Environment maintains strong connections with various academic fields. Students from other disciplines will discover numerous courses that align with their interests. Whether studying Literature or Geology, Chemistry or History, Fine Arts or Economics, Geography provides fresh perspectives for understanding our shared environment.
The Geography BA program integrates diverse topics from public health concerns and urban design to global trends, political geography, transport systems, and economic growth. It focuses on building both quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities - including mapmaking, spatial data interpretation, social theory application, and archival research - enhanced by fieldwork and group research projects. BA graduates emerge as adaptable, highly skilled professionals ready to tackle challenges in today's dynamic workforce.
