As one of Canada's official languages, French holds significant global importance as an international language. Our French studies program offers a diverse, adaptable, and comprehensive exploration of both the language and the rich cultures it represents. Students gain valuable skills and knowledge that prepare them for professions in education, media, translation, publishing, public service, and academic research. In Canada's employment landscape, French proficiency provides a distinct advantage. Our department features a unified curriculum combining language instruction, linguistic studies, literary analysis, and cultural exploration, with French serving as the primary language of instruction unless otherwise noted.
Students can choose between two specialist programs (French Language and French Linguistics, or French Language and Literature), three major concentrations (French Language Learning, French Language and French Linguistics, or French Language and Literature), and two minor options (French Language or French Studies).
