The Major offers a comprehensive base for those with academic or community interests in legal systems, criminal behavior, and justice administration, potentially including:
students considering advanced studies in fields such as criminology, legal studies, or social services,
individuals seeking deeper knowledge about crime-related sociological concepts, especially as they influence public policy decisions.
UTM's Sociology department ranks among the world's top institutions, with particular distinction in law and society studies and criminology (additional strengths encompass gender studies, cultural sociology, food sociology, and inequality research). Our faculty's scholarly work and curriculum address crucial subjects for analyzing societal conditions and transformations. Undergraduate options include Specialist, Major, and Minor degrees in Sociology, plus Specialist and Major tracks in Criminology, Law & Society. As part of the tri-campus Sociology graduate department, we provide MA and PhD training through instruction and mentorship, with graduate program administration based at the downtown campus.
