The Master of Science in Forestry (MScF) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs focus on research and thesis work within specialized fields aligned with faculty knowledge and available funding. These specializations encompass diverse areas such as wildlife ecology and forest conservation biology, biosphere science related to forests, risks to forest health including invasive species, sustainable management of forest environments, fire ecology and ecosystem management, conservation strategies for forests, economic aspects of sustainable development, political and governance frameworks for forests, socio-cultural dimensions of forest ecosystems, urban forest management, and the science and engineering of forest-derived biomaterials.
Applicants may be admitted to the four-year PhD program via completion of an appropriate master's degree from a recognized university with at least an A- standing, in a discipline appropriate to the intended field of doctoral study and research.
PhD Program (Direct-Entry)
An extraordinarily strong applicant with an appropriate bachelor's degree from a recognized university may be admitted to the PhD program via direct entry.
English language requirements
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Required score: 7.0 (Academic) with at least 6.5 for each component.
Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) Including Writing and Speaking Sections: Overall score: 93; Writing: 22; Speaking: 22
Academic English Level 60: Required score: B
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Online: Required score: 70 minimum total with at least 60 in each part.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE): Required score: 76 minimum total with at least 22 in each component and 32 in writing
Cambridge Assessment English: Required score: minimum 185 overall with at least 176 in each component.
