The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology graduate program offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. These interconnected fields provide complementary approaches to studying biological systems. Faculty and students conduct both independent and collaborative research spanning these disciplines, frequently integrating multiple organizational levels. Research specialties encompass anatomy/physiology, animal behavior, behavioral genetics, bioinformatics, various ecological scales (from community to landscape), conservation biology, developmental biology, genetics/genomics, microbiology, molecular evolution, plant sciences, taxonomy/systematics, and theoretical biology.
Our graduate education aims to cultivate well-rounded scientists capable of: (i) conducting original, publishable research, (ii) applying rigorous analytical thinking, (iii) developing specialized technical skills, (iv) effectively communicating findings through writing and presentations, and (v) pursuing successful careers in their chosen specialties. We prepare future scientific leaders to address critical societal challenges requiring advanced ecological and evolutionary expertise.
Applicants may be accepted who already hold an MSc degree from a recognized university with a grade average equivalent to at least a University of Toronto A– during the MSc and an average of at least B+ in the last year of the bachelor's program.
