The Computer Science Department provides graduate studies culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. These programs combine coursework with faculty-supervised research projects. Our computer science faculty specialize in diverse computing fields such as programming languages, software development, system operations, compiler design, distributed systems, networking, numerical methods, financial computing, data organization, algorithm development, computational theory, encryption techniques, discrete mathematics, artificial intelligence, neural networks, knowledge systems, computational language processing, visual computing, robotics, database management, computer graphics, digital animation, interactive systems, and user interface design.
The doctoral program delivers comprehensive computer science expertise, requiring students to complete an innovative research dissertation that advances the field under faculty mentorship.
Successful completion of an appropriate master's degree with a standing equivalent to at least a University of Toronto B+. Preference is given to applicants who have studied computer science or a closely related discipline.
English language requirements
Applicants whose primary language is not English and who graduated from a university where the language of instruction is not English must achieve a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 580 on the paper-based test and 4 on the Test of Written English (TWE); or 93/120 on the Internet-based test and 22/30 on the writing and speaking sections.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Required score: 7.0 (Academic) with at least 6.5 for each component.
Academic English Level 60: Required score: B
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Online: Required score: 70 minimum total with at least 60 in each part.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE): Required score: 76 minimum total with at least 22 in each component and 32 in writing
Cambridge Assessment English: Required score: minimum 185 overall with at least 176 in each component.
