Graduate students can pursue research in state-of-the-art facilities to earn their Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Their studies span diverse fields including analytical, biological, environmental, inorganic, organic, materials, physical, polymer, and theoretical chemistry, along with related interdisciplinary subjects.
Founded in 1859, the Department of Chemistry ranks among the world's premier institutions. It boasts exceptional teaching standards, cutting-edge research infrastructure, and a legacy of producing outstanding scientists. The department also supports collaborative specializations in Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Studies. All graduate students receive comprehensive, competitive funding through research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and fellowships, with additional financial incentives for scholarship recipients.
Students enjoy valuable partnerships with nearby hospitals, industries, and government labs. They access advanced research laboratories and equipment while working at the intersection of chemistry with biology, medicine, nanotechnology, and environmental science.
Environmental chemistry examines chemical processes in nature that human activities influence. These effects range from local contamination near industrial sites to global issues like ozone layer depletion. Our research approaches environmental science at the molecular level. This expansive, interdisciplinary field includes faculty specializing in atmospheric and aquatic chemistry, photochemistry, environmental toxicology, and pollutant behavior. We collaborate extensively with other chemistry researchers, university colleagues, and government agencies.
