Graduate students can pursue research in state-of-the-art facilities to earn either a Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Their studies may span diverse fields such as analytical, biological, environmental, inorganic, organic, materials, physical, polymer, and theoretical chemistry, along with related interdisciplinary subjects.
Founded in 1859, the Department of Chemistry ranks among the world's premier institutions. It boasts a legacy of academic excellence, cutting-edge research infrastructure, and a tradition of nurturing accomplished scientists. The department also supports collaborative specializations in Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Studies. Competitive funding packages—combining research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and fellowships—are guaranteed for all graduate students, with additional financial incentives for scholarship recipients.
Students gain from strong partnerships with nearby hospitals, industries, and government research facilities. They have access to advanced laboratories and equipment while working at the intersection of chemistry with biology, medicine, nanotechnology, and environmental science.
Analytical chemistry focuses on identifying and quantifying the chemical composition and structure of substances. Analysts work with an extensive range of samples, from high-concentration metal alloys to trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in biological specimens. This discipline relies on transforming measurable physical properties into interpretable data and is traditionally categorized into classical and instrumental methods. The analytical process involves proper sample preparation, selecting appropriate techniques, and presenting results clearly—often with statistical validation.
