The department offers graduate programs in both human and physical geography. Graduate education and research in the department emphasizes:

Faculty employ diverse research approaches, incorporating both quantitative modeling and qualitative methodologies. Field research extends nationwide, with established sites in Canada's northern regions, the Rocky Mountains, and various urban and rural locations across the country and abroad. The Department holds a Canada Research Chair in Environmental Change and Water Resources and provides graduate students with offices, lab facilities, and research spaces for both social and natural sciences, supported by recent funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, the University, and Saskatchewan's provincial government. The department also upholds the university's dedication to fostering community-university collaborations and conducting research that enhances quality of life for provincial residents.
