The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics explores the connections between human communities and the natural environment through research and education. Learners gain exposure to diverse disciplines such as human and physical geography, environmental science, and geospatial technologies. Key research areas encompass polar ecosystems, urban spatial patterns, climate dynamics, and geospatial analysis techniques.
Beyond undergraduate offerings, the department provides two-year thesis Master's programs (MA/MSc), a one-year course-based MSc specialization in The Anthropocene, and doctoral studies in Geography. MA/MSc candidates may also enroll in the interdisciplinary Science, Society and Policy program. All graduate studies follow the university's established academic regulations.
The Science, Society and Policy program equips participants with analytical tools to address complex issues at the science-policy nexus. The curriculum examines evidence-based policymaking, the influence of regulations on scientific research, and the societal implications of technological advancements.
