The department offers advanced degree programs in both human and physical geography. Graduate education and research in the department emphasizes:
Environmental science, policy, management, and evaluation
Geospatial technology and remote sensing
Hydrological systems and ecohydrological modeling
Landscape studies and environmental transformation
Regional, urban, and watershed development planning
Indigenous communities and health research
Faculty employ diverse research approaches, incorporating both quantitative modeling and qualitative methodologies. Field research extends nationwide, with established monitoring sites in Canada's northern regions and Rocky Mountains, along with selected urban and rural locations across the country and abroad. The Department holds a Canada Research Chair in Environmental Change and Water Resources, and features dedicated graduate workspaces, laboratory facilities, and research areas for both social and natural sciences, supported by recent funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, University, and Saskatchewan's provincial government. The department also upholds the university's mission to foster community-university collaborations and conduct research that enhances quality of life for provincial residents.
