The department offers graduate programs in both human and physical geography. Graduate education and research in the department emphasizes:
Environmental science, policy, management, and evaluation

Indigenous communities and health research
Faculty employ diverse research approaches, including quantitative modeling and qualitative methods. Field research extends nationwide, with well-equipped sites in Canada's North, the Rocky Mountains, and various urban/rural locations domestically and abroad. The Department holds a Canada Research Chair in Environmental Change and Water Resources, featuring dedicated graduate workspaces, laboratories, and research facilities for social and natural sciences, supported by recent funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, University, and Saskatchewan's provincial government.
