The English Department offers graduate programs in literary studies leading to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. Approximately 30 faculty members guide graduate research across diverse specializations:

The M.A. program provides both thesis and project pathways, involving coursework and language proficiency (for thesis candidates), culminating in a thesis or project defense. The Ph.D. program includes coursework, language requirements, a comprehensive Field Exam, and dissertation development and defense. Typically, the M.A. takes 1-2 years to complete, while the Ph.D. requires at least four years of study.
A Master's degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study.
A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (USask grade system equivalent) in the Master's degree.
Demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research.
