The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures provides Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in Spanish.
This program aims to deliver specialized education in Spanish and Latin American literature and culture, along with Hispanic linguistics, leveraging the department faculty's expertise in theoretical and comparative research.
Language and cultural studies serve as vital preparation for global citizenship. Understanding diverse cultures and communicating across them enables active navigation in an interconnected world where arts, politics, commerce, and environmental concerns are profoundly influenced by both international and local perspectives.
Applicants must have an MA in Spanish or equivalent degree, with an average of at least 75 per cent (B+). Applicants are required to submit a short description of their proposed doctoral research project outlining their areas of interest as well as a sample of their graduate written work. Wherever possible, candidates for admission to the program should be interviewed by a professor or professors in the program.
