This program explores human behavior, social structures, and cultural norms to uncover and evaluate the underlying gender assumptions. It investigates shifting roles of women and men, gender diversity, queer theory, social movements, and evolving perspectives on gender.
You'll analyze representations of femininity and masculinity across advertising, media, literature, arts, music, adult content, religion, and cinema. The curriculum covers connections between biology and gender concepts, gendered communication patterns, gender's role in identity development and socialization, plus women's evolving economic and political participation.
Double Honours Programs combine two disciplines. Typically, students complete at least 36 credit units per subject. Additional information is available in the Academic Information and Policies section.

Admission to a Double Honours program (Women's & Gender Studies paired with another discipline) requires selecting two fields and receiving academic advising for both. Students must fulfill Major 1 requirements for their primary discipline and Major 2 requirements for their secondary discipline.

The major average for Women's and Gender Studies in a Double Honours program is determined using grades from all courses counting toward the Major 2 requirements.
