The discipline of Gender and Women's Studies has undergone significant evolution since its establishment at Lakehead University in 1990. Beyond exploring women's experiences and gender structures, you'll investigate diverse areas including: Sexuality, Queer Theory, Legal Studies, Masculinity Studies, Global Activism, Ecofeminism, Equity Movements, Popular Culture, and Bodily Experiences. Through these subjects and others, we aim to reveal how societal beliefs limit individuals and how these barriers can be overcome to promote fairness. Our Women's Studies Department employs a multidisciplinary feminist perspective. Our distinguished faculty specialize in feminist jurisprudence, women's wellness, queer theory, and digital media studies, offering courses that effectively prepare students for advanced programs like the Master of Social Justice, Canadian law schools, healthcare professions like midwifery, law enforcement careers, and various other paths.
As an Honors student in Women's Studies, you can pursue a dual major with Gerontology, Psychology, History, English, Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Outdoor Education, or Concurrent Education, alongside concentration or specialization choices in Social Work.
