The Master of Arts (MA) in Media Studies is a research-focused graduate program offering in-depth exploration of film and media through historical, theoretical, and methodological lenses, with emphasis on modern developments and emerging directions. Participants cultivate comprehensive knowledge and analytical abilities while tailoring their studies through foundational theory courses, specialized seminars, and individualized reading projects.

Potential thesis research topics encompass diverse cinematic traditions, influential filmmakers, stylistic categories, or modern critical perspectives (including feminist, postcolonial, and Indigenous frameworks) applied to various media forms such as narrative films, documentaries, animated works, avant-garde cinema, television, digital platforms, and interactive experiences.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants to the Master of Arts in Media Studies must hold a BA Honours degree in Film or Media Studies or the equivalent, with a minimum GPA of 75 per cent.

A graduating average of at least 70 per cent from a four-year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) is required for admission to all programs except for English, History, Mathematics and Statistics and the Master of Public Administration where the required average is 75 per cent.
