The Master of Arts (MA) in Film Studies is a 30-credit program offering in-depth exploration of cinema and media through historical, theoretical, and methodological lenses, with focus on modern ideas, challenges, and developments. Students may investigate diverse topics like national and global film traditions, influential filmmakers, various genres, or modern analytical perspectives (including feminist, post-colonial, Indigenous, and queer studies) across multiple media formats such as narrative films, documentaries, animations, avant-garde cinema, television, digital media, and interactive platforms. This curriculum fosters comprehensive knowledge and analytical skills while allowing students to tailor their studies through foundational theory courses, specialized seminars, and customized reading courses.

Qualification Requirements

Candidates for the MA must hold a BA Honours degree in Film or Media Studies, or the equivalent, and must submit a proposal (three to five pages) stating clearly the degree to be obtained and describing the intended focus of their thesis. Undergraduate academic record of achievement (minimum GPA of 75%)

The Department of Film's minimum English Proficiency scores for students required to submit them are: IELTS - 7.0 overall, 7.0 each, TOEFL (Internet) - 92 (23 each band), PTE - 65
