Philosophy appeals to those with an inquisitive mind, inviting us to examine the foundational ideas shaping our perspectives. Consider questions like: How do we define justice, morality, love, knowledge, nature, freedom, or identity? To support your exploration, we provide courses spanning epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, logic, political philosophy, environmental philosophy, philosophy of religion, and philosophical history. We strive to create a supportive, stimulating space where you can develop clear, well-reasoned, independent thinking.
In addition to major and minor options, we offer an honors track for exceptional students. Our graduates have continued their philosophical studies at institutions including Concordia, Dalhousie, McGill, McMaster, Queen’s, Simon Fraser, Toronto, UBC, Victoria, Waterloo, and York. Many also excel in law school, while others build careers in healthcare research, media, teaching, and corporate sectors. A philosophy degree signals to employers your capacity for independent critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Beyond career advantages, philosophy's true value lies in cultivating self-directed, genuine human understanding – wherever your path may lead.
