The Bachelor of Applied Arts in Journalism is a collaborative degree program jointly provided by the University of Prince Edward Island and Holland College. Participants gain hands-on journalism training and practical skills (mainly through Holland College coursework) while also developing broad academic knowledge, subject matter expertise, and abilities in research, analytical reasoning, and critical analysis (primarily through UPEI studies).
The typical program structure involves one initial year at the University, followed by two years in Holland College's Journalism diploma program, concluding with a final year back at UPEI. This culminating year often incorporates journalism writing opportunities either on campus or arranged through Holland College. Alternative study sequences between the institutions are allowed, provided students complete at least five courses (15 semester hours) after obtaining their Holland College diploma.

Successful completion of Grade 12 examinations in a University Preparatory Program with an overall average of at least 70% (75% for Quebec Secondary V students) in the following subjects:

The language of instruction at the University of Prince Edward Island is English. All academically admissible applicants, regardless of their country of origin or citizenship status, are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to undertaking studies at the University of Prince Edward Island. Applicants without English proficiency test scores, or with scores below the minimum, may be admitted conditionally (NOT available to applicants seeking admission to Nursing, Radiography, Education or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine), and will be assessed by the EAP Coordinator upon arrival.
