Representing Canada's dual-language and three-part legal framework (civil law, common law, and Indigenous law), along with its position in the nation's capital, the Law Faculty provides advanced degree programs culminating in either a master's or doctoral qualification in Law.
The postgraduate legal studies represent a collaborative effort between the Common Law and Civil Law departments. We accept law graduates from both traditions and from international jurisdictions. Instruction is available in English or French, with some courses offered bilingually. Students can easily pursue their advanced legal education while gaining exposure to Canada's diverse legal systems and language practices.
These programs are delivered in English, French, or sometimes a mix of both. Following University of Ottawa guidelines, examinations, coursework, and final papers or theses may be submitted in either official language. All programs adhere to the standard graduate studies regulations.
