Representing Canada's dual-language and three-part legal framework (civil law, common law, and Indigenous law), along with its position in the nation's capital, the Faculty of Law provides advanced degree programs culminating in a Master's or Doctorate in Law.
The law graduate programs are a collaborative effort between the Common Law and Civil Law departments. We accept law graduates from both legal traditions and from various global jurisdictions. Instruction is available in English or French, with some courses offered bilingually. Students can easily pursue their advanced legal education while gaining exposure to Canada's diverse legal systems and language practices.
These programs are conducted in English and French, occasionally blending both languages. Following University of Ottawa guidelines, examinations, coursework, and research papers or theses may be submitted in either English or French. All programs adhere to the standard graduate studies regulations.
