The School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies provides these academic programs: Master of Arts (MA) and PhD in sociology, along with an MA in anthropology. The School also contributes to these joint initiatives: Feminist and Gender Studies at the master's level and Canadian studies at the doctoral level.
The sociology MA program is available both full-time and part-time, conducted in French or English. For English programs, annual admission limits follow the guidelines outlined in the "Admission Requirements" section. As per University of Ottawa policy, students can complete assignments, research papers, theses, and exams in either English or French.
The master's program presents two pathways: the thesis-based MA and the research paper MA, both of which may include a co-op component. Students in either track can enroll in the Feminist and Gender Studies collaborative program. Additional details are available in the "Apply for Admission" section.
The master's-level Collaborative program in Feminist and Gender Studies caters to students from various fields including arts, education, health sciences, law, social sciences, and counseling and spirituality (Saint Paul University) who wish to explore Feminist and Gender Studies. Participants can integrate specialized studies in their main discipline with Feminist and Gender Studies approaches. Upon completion, graduates receive a master's degree in their primary field with a "specialization in Feminist and Gender Studies."
