The Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation resulted from the consolidation of Canada's accounting profession. After this integration, CPA Canada created the CPA professional education program (PEP), which provincial accounting bodies are tasked with implementing. CPA Ontario provides Canadian universities with the chance to deliver graduate programs that encompass part or all of the CPA PEP curriculum.
This direct-entry graduate diploma program serves as an extension of the Accounting Specialization within the Bachelor of Commerce degree currently available at the Telfer School. Combined, the Accounting Specialization and this diploma meet all criteria outlined in CPA Canada's Chartered Professional Accountant Competency Map. The graduate diploma in chartered professional accountancy equips students to progress to the capstone components of the CPA PEP.
The program develops advanced skills in financial accounting, strategic governance, management accounting, auditing, finance, and taxation, particularly for complex transactions beyond undergraduate coverage. It also emphasizes essential professional competencies including ethics, analytical thinking, communication, personal management, and collaborative leadership.
