The School of Translation and Interpretation (STI) provides advanced degree programs including a Master of Arts in Translation Studies (MA), Master in Conference Interpreting (MCI), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Translation Studies.
The PhD program in translation studies aims to develop skilled academics for teaching and scholarly research in this discipline.
Examining theories, historical developments, and teaching methodologies related to translation as a form of cross-language and cross-cultural communication.
Application of lexicology, specialized terminology, and technological tools in translation practice.
Given translation's interdisciplinary nature, the doctoral program may work with departments like Law, English, Canadian Studies, French, Modern Languages and Literatures, Linguistics, Philosophy, and the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE). Program administration remains exclusively under the School of Translation and Interpretation's purview.
This intensive program requires completion of four courses, a comprehensive examination, and a doctoral thesis.
The department also contributes to a joint Canadian Studies initiative at the doctoral level. Additional details about this opportunity can be found in the "Admission Requirements" section.
