The doctoral program in population health results from a partnership among five faculties: Health Sciences, Medicine, Social Sciences, the Telfer School of Management, and the Law Faculty's Common Law Section.
Administratively based in the Faculty of Health Sciences, this program follows a comprehensive model addressing population health concerns, factors influencing health disparities, and intervention strategies involving policies, programs, and resource allocation.
As Canada's only program of its kind, it integrates diverse academic fields, spanning fundamental and practical disciplines. It synthesizes perspectives from social, biological, clinical, organizational, and political sciences, while employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. This interdisciplinary approach acknowledges the multifaceted nature of population health challenges, requiring solutions that bridge health and non-health sectors.
Tailored for various professionals, the program serves healthcare practitioners, administrators, demographic researchers, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, social scientists, legal experts, environmental researchers, and biologists focused on human health populations.
Participants learn to apply their disciplinary expertise to population health matters. The curriculum provides extensive population health knowledge through coursework and examinations, while allowing specialized focus areas within this framework. Research opportunities span diverse environments, from community-level to international settings.
