Geology is a contemporary, vibrant, and multifaceted field of science focused on exploring the makeup and development of Earth and other celestial bodies.
Earth scientists and geologists examine our planet's chemical, physical, and biological transformations. Our curriculum equips students with skills to evaluate Earth's materials, explore its layers from crust to core, and simulate the forces that formed its landmasses and water bodies. The Ottawa area serves as an ideal outdoor classroom where students explore natural resources (water, minerals, fossil fuels), geological risks (seismic events, volcanic activity, slope failures), and diverse Earth systems.
The Earth and Environmental Sciences Department provides geology programs and, in collaboration with Physics, a combined geology-physics track. These programs blend hands-on fieldwork with conceptual and technical studies addressing societal challenges. The culminating year features either an independent research initiative or advanced coursework units in the field.
The honors criteria align with the professional certification standards set by Ontario's Association of Professional Geoscientists and Quebec's l'Ordre des géologues.
