Students will develop expertise and apply their learning to enhance physical activity, education, and coaching initiatives that improve quality of life. They'll obtain both theoretical foundations and hands-on experience in motivating individuals to increase activity levels while optimizing participation experiences across different physical activity settings. The program equips students to analyze how teaching and coaching roles influence health, wellness, personal growth, skill development, and societal outcomes, while teaching them to design, execute, and assess effective programs. Grounded in social science disciplines like psychology, sociocultural studies, pedagogy, and leisure research, the curriculum develops motivational and consultation skills for diverse populations. This includes learning behavior modification strategies for activity promotion or competition preparation techniques for athletes.
Participants can develop leadership capabilities for group-based initiatives in sports coaching, recreational programming, and physical education instruction. The training prepares graduates to strategically advance community health through physical activity programs applicable to all age groups (from early childhood to seniors) and diverse populations (including individuals with disabilities or at-risk youth). Students will cultivate critical thinking skills to evaluate whether interventions and policies account for personal, social, and environmental factors, enabling them to drive innovation in current methodologies.
