Established in 1854, UNB's Civil Engineering department boasts a distinguished legacy. Our graduate program has equipped countless students with critical engineering expertise to design, develop, and oversee vital modern infrastructure. Whether constructing highways and bridges or creating sustainable water systems and energy-efficient structures, UNB graduates emerge prepared for rewarding careers with engineering firms, non-governmental organizations, government bodies, and global research institutions.
The PhD program focuses on original research, requiring candidates to produce a significant thesis in civil engineering. Applicants typically need an engineering or applied science graduate degree. PhD candidates must maintain excellent academic performance and successfully complete a Comprehensive Examination within their first year, evaluated by their doctoral committee.
Program Durations: 1-2 years (MEng); 2 years (MScE); 3-4 years (PhD).
Admission Terms: Fall/Winter (MEng); Fall/Winter/Summer (MScE/PhD).
PhD applicants typically hold a Master’s degree from an accredited university.
International applicants whose first language is not English must submit language scores that meet or exceed:
International English language testing system (IELTS) = Band 7.5
Paper-based TOEFL = 580
Internet-based TOEFL = 92
Michigan test = 85%
